I have the good fortune of traveling to Kenya annually to see friends and family. But now, thanks to CIPE, I have another great reason to visit. My CIPE mentee, June Gathoni and her organization, the Small and Medium Entrepreneurial Resource Centre, are headquartered in Nairobi and on my trip this March we were able to meet for the first time after several SKYPE calls over the past 8 months.
One of TMG's Core Values is "Creating Stronger Communities and Human Connections to Enhance Global Society." In keeping up with that Core Value TMG recently had a chance to give back by collecting school supplies to be donated to the Moi Avenue Primary School in Kenya. Included in the donations were art supplies and laptop computers that will go a long way for the Nairobi, Kenya located school. In addition TMG is helping to connect Moi Avenue with a local school to serve as "pen pals."
I just returned from my annual trip to Kenya visiting friends and family in Nairobi and Nakuru. It was a fascinating time to be in the country with the Presidential election petition being presented and heard by the Kenyan Supreme Court (complete with references to the 2000 Bush/Gore Florida challenge in the US Supreme Court). The country was glued to the TV or gathered around radios on mopeds to hear the lawyers for both sides presenting their case.
